She IS my daughter!

I wanted to add a note that Miss Lydia continues to be quite the talker. She has had two three-word sentences for ages now. Unfortunately, neither one of them is, "I love you." They are, "I have it," and "I get it." She even says, "Mama, I have it," so I am totally counting that as a four-word sentence.

Hat

Lydia got this super cute hat and matching mittens for Christmas from Mandy Flynn! I thought it was going to be a major fight getting her into them, but the opposite was true. She learned the word "hat" over the weekend (as opposed to hair), so she has to have her "hat" on in the morning now. And she sticks her hands right out, fingers pressed together, so we can get those mittens on. And don't forget her pink boots, which she also loves and can also say. I love that the boots are hand-me-downs that still say "Rainey" on the tag inside :)

The Case of the Missing Scattergories Ball

So last night Doug was over, and Nate and Catherine were on their way. This was definitely the perfect opportunity to play some Scattergories. Sean was excitedly unpacking the game (which is not an exaggeration as many of you know), and he tossed the alphabet ball at Lydia. She was on the floor playing with plastic shapes. Sean passed out the lists to me and Doug, and asked Lydia to bring him the alphabet ball. We looked around--no ball. We looked more intently, no ball. We asked Lydia, "Where did you put the ball?" She gave us a blank stare. At this point, we are like, where is the dang thing?! She had it like three minutes ago and hasn't left the living room!! We decided to go down to her level. So picture me, Sean, and Doug crawling around on the floor looking for this dumb thing. This must have gone on for 20 minutes. At this point, we are more interested in solving the mystery than finding the stupid ball.
Finally Doug says, "I think I found Lydia's secret hiding place." We come over, and he is turning the subwoofer on it's side, and colorful plastic shapes are falling out, one by one, there were probably six in there. Then pretty soon a pair of pink socks drops out (no joke). And finally, after a lot of shaking, lastly, out drops the Scattergories alphabet ball. That stinker!!! (Lydia, not Doug.)

So this morning I said to Sean, "I have got to put this story on the blog. It is too funny." I walked over to get a picture of the alphabet ball next to the subwoofer in order to illustrate what happened, and guess who has their hand in there shoving the plastic shapes back in?!

Lydia. Caught red-handed.

First Trip to the Pumpkin Patch

Joy and I took Lydia to Thistleberry Farms on Sunday for a hayride, pumpkin selection, and (cold) apple cider. It was like 80 degrees! Note her shirt from Grandma- it features a glow-in-the-dark ghost and says, "Boo" for boo boo!

15-Month Check Up (at 16 mos)

Dr. Scott said that Lydia is gorgeous of course! He said that he is impressed with how "verbal" she is (surprise). I ran through some of her words: Daddy, Mama, ball, up, down (she confuses the last two unfortunately), kitty, doggie, Yong, Bella, Jackson, yummy, no, and "What's that?" and "What's up?" She also sings the "Clean Up" song, sort of. She is 31 inches and 23 pounds.

Loving Milennium Park

Lydia, Joy, and I went to Chicago over Labor Day Weekend. On Sunday we hit downtown and Milennium Park, and on Monday we met Jess, Maddie, and Jenn at the Brookfield Zoo. Good times!

Baby Steps?

Lydia waited forever to crawl, but once she did she took off like a rocket! Soon she was walking and "running," and now she climbs all over everything (she loves stairs).

She is also very good at communicating (not just in screams, but that is her favorite). She says: uh-oh, dada, mama, up, down, kitty, ball, and Lydia (sounds like lee eeuh), and she repeats things we say a lot. She can also (sort of) sign thank you, more, and excuse me, but she has kind of morphed more and excuse me.

Always Dressing to Impress...

Lydia's coat from Grace was a MAJOR hit at daycare today.

You can kind of see her two teeth in the one pic-but they are much cuter in real life.

Lefty?

We are wondering if L is going to be a lefty? She is always grabbing those Cheerios with her left hand...

Maybe she will be a superstar pitcher like her great grandpa. Or maybe she will just be weird like her Grandpa B. Ha! :)

Go Colts!

Lydia thinks because she was born in Indiana she gets to be a Colts fan. She will have to learn to suffer through the Lions like the rest of us!

8 Months Old

Lydia is sitting up great now and has two teeth (she really took her time on the sitting up--didn't seem to care too much about it). I discovered her first tooth while we were visiting Jenn and Ben's new home on 12/19.
